The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is a department within the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Administration, responsible for planning, training, and exercises to ensure the Department’s leadership and workforce can respond to and recover from all domestic hazards. 

Key Responsibilities:

    • Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency management plans for all domestic hazards that could affect the Department. 
    • Training & Exercises: Conduct training programs and simulated exercises to test and improve readiness. 
    • Continuity of Operations: Ensure critical functions can continue during and after emergencies. 
    • Interagency Coordination: Work with other agencies to align emergency management strategies and share resources. 
    • Leadership Support: Provide guidance and expertise to Department leadership on emergency response and recovery.
